Art in its essence is a universally shared understanding that It may be used to express almost anything, and everything. The origin of art, on the other hand is largely variated, and sprout from every corner of the globe. The earliest pieces of art were painted along the walls of the caves in the Paleolithic era, and has diversified into forms with hundreds of mediums.
My earliest exposure to art was traditional Chinese calligraphy, which then turned into 國畫, guǒ huà, or traditional Chinese ink painting. This form of painting comes in two different forms/ Some are monotone paintings exclusively using Chinese ink, derived from mixing fine pine wood or oil soot with bovine hide or fish glue. Others are colorful renditions of florid, landscape, animal, and object paintings with saturated colors derived from the surrounding nature.
Upon arriving in the states, my palettes expanded into acrylics, oils, pastels, charcoal, and photography. Each of these mediums have their own origins in my life, and exactly so, I enjoy creation. Knowing that I own this origin, and these stories are behind why I continue to create, it creates an appreciation for the tool in my hand.
This portfolio began as a process of sharing, and upon entering the latter part of the decade, I have found there is an increased necessity to continue creating, to continue sharing outwards. Art has the ability to dissolve an apathy that is conditioned from the responsibilities and tasks of every day life. And so, I, alongside many others, paint, draw, and capture.
Enjoy.
